Title: The One Real Thing (Hart’s Boardwalk #1)
Author: Samantha Young
Release Date: September 6, 2016
Synopsis:
Welcome to Hartwell, a quiet seaside escape where uncovering old secrets could lead one woman to discover the meaning of a love that lasts…
While Doctor Jessica Huntington engages with the inmates at the women’s correctional facility where she works, she’s always careful to avoid emotional attachments in her personal life. Loss and betrayal taught her that lesson long ago. But when she comes across a set of old love letters in the prison’s library and visits the picturesque town of Hartwell to deliver them to their intended recipient, she finds herself unable to resist the town’s charm—and her attraction to the sexy owner of a local bar proves equally hard to deny.
Since his divorce from his unfaithful ex-wife, Cooper Lawson has focused on what really matters: his family and the boardwalk pub they’ve owned for generations. But the first time Jessica steps into his bar, Cooper is beyond tempted to risk his heart on her. Yet as their attraction grows hotter and Jessica remains stubbornly closed off, he begins to realize it will take more than just passion to convince her there’s only one real thing in life worth fighting for….

My Review:
A new Samantha Young series? YES PLEASE!!!
Having devoured and adored the characters from her On Dublin Street series as well as the standalone Hero I was excited to discover a series set in Delaware.
The cover screams serenity and calm. The blurb intrigued me so when I had the opportunity to read it, I took it.
The first part of the book, to me, is the slowest moving start to a story Samantha has written. It was peaceful, she describes such an idyllic and sleepy town on the build up to the busier tourist season. I could picture myself sitting on the balcony of an inn watching out over the water hearing the waves coming in against the shore. I could see the boardwalk and imagine the shops and businesses down there.
I wanted so badly to be *in* the book and was grateful for the images Samantha was describing so I could sit curled up in an armchair next to Jessica in Emery’s book/coffee shop reading THIS story.
Naturally, the hero, Cooper, made me swoon. He had been burned before and wasn’t about to let it happen again. But he couldn’t ignore his immediate reaction to this new person in town. He was intrigued and before long he was in deep.
They both came together with pasts they’d rather forget. Do they let it potentially ruin what could be the best thing they’ve ever experienced? Or can they get passed their baggage and move forward lighter and together?
Of course I’m not about to tell you that!
The last 30% of the book had me on tenterhooks, I couldn’t call it and am so excited for what comes next in the town of Hartwell and its inhabitants.
4 out of 5 stars.
