Within these walls, he became my solace, my sanctuary and my strength.
I am not strong. I am just a survivor of circumstance.
Isn’t that what we all do? Survive?
Each of us has our own set of circumstances to muddle through. Mine are just more…complicated.
Born with a severe heart defect, I’ve seen the inside of a hospital room more than my own bedroom.
I was drowning, a prisoner to the illness that owned me, until he appeared. He thinks he’s blocked out the world with his tattoos and hard exterior, but I see the real Jude, the one he so desperately wants to forget.
But is he the answer to my prayers or will he break my already damaged heart forever?
My name is Lailah Buchanan, and this is our story of hope, redemption and sacrificing it all for the one you love.

Who knew that something as simple as a chocolate pudding can lead to mended hearts, true love and learning to live life to the max?
My heart still warms at the thought of this book days after finishing it. It was the perfect mix of sweetness, romance, angst and intrigue.
Lailah is used to being inside the hospital. Having a dodgy heart and needing extra special care does that to a person.
Jude is used to being inside the hospital. It’s where he feels connected and less lost than when he is not within the confines of the building even if he’s just wandering the halls.
You get to experience their story first hand – which is told through dual POVs – and you fall in love and lust with the characters as their relationship blossoms from strangers to friends to partners.
Lailah has her version of a bucket list, except it’s full of what normal, healthy teenagers would have experienced as a part of daily life. Texting a friend, going to the movies, eating ice cream at an ice cream parlour. The list is long and once Jude discovers it and has glimpsed into the wishes and dreams of Lailah he goes about and does his best in fulfilling them for, and with, her.
It’s not just Lailah who benefits from their time together. Jude has shut himself off from the real world, his family and any people that he might class as friends. He’s been a shell of his former self for too long and spending time with Lailah and getting feelings for her – feelings he never thought possible to ever have again – force him I reevaluate his life and current state of being. He existed. And barely at that. My heart broke for how Jude came to be the loner. It shattered when he discovered his connection to Lailah long before they’d even met.
You may feel the story is all about the girl – how she is stuck dreaming about a time when she can do something as simple as cook a meal, how she wanted to fall in love and call someone her boyfriend but knowing she probably never will – but you see so much change and inner turmoil from Jude that you know it’s a fair split as to whom the story is about.
I love how intertwined their lives were and how connected they became. Love truly can save a person. Or two people. Tomorrow may never come for some people and no one knows this more than this young couple.
My emotions ran high throughout this book and I cannot stress how much I loved it from start to finish. There was no lull in the story, no fillers and certainly no parts I would ever skip during a reread. With amazing writing and such depth of feeling coming across in JL Berg’s words each page was a delight to devour. A must read, definite and easily 5 star book for me. This book and me? Definitely “Number 1”!!
I love to read a book that is just different, a breath of fresh air, not really realistic(in a few parts) but I like that!!
Jude well that boy just broke my heart and the moment he thinks he has hope that Megan will pull through I would of 100% made the same choice as him!!! Even reading this book and realising what that action really meant!! When it’s a loved one you think differently!! You don’t think of the future, your think of your LOVED one.
Jude lived so much with his guilt that he pushed everyone away, he had no life and he was fine with that, he believed he was left to he punished, he became so different to the person in not just personality but looks too!!!
Laliah was so brave so beautiful and fearless!!! She was born poorly and he life became four hospital walls but she made her life the fullest she possibly could and that’s what Jude saw, he saw the passion the beauty in Lailah that no bloody outside those walls ever got a chance to see!!! She was locked away from the world for her protect but that made her exist not live even though she made the most of her life it wasn’t until Jude that she realised she could be normal!!
In all the darkness Jude had, all the black that he could see, Lailah brought so much light to Jude that it was pretty over whelming to read the emotions poured out of the pages for both characters.
The list!! O my the bucket list, in life we take too much for granted, even to texting on a phone!!! Lailah wanted to be normal and Jude gave her that chance!!! She loved him and he loved her but what happens when that love is formed on a lie, that secrets are being held, that life is ticking by and families are falling apart!!!
All Lailah ever knew is gone!!! Her life is not worth fighting for and no one can pull her out of it!!!
But again more secrets are being told and sacrifices are being made!!!
What’s happens if in life all the sorrow, all the pain, all the heartbreak is suppose to happen to make u be with the person your meant to be with!! Can love really survive all that!!!
Can Jude and Lailah really survive what they have to go through, can Jude Love Lailah enough to keep her alive????
Your just have to read this 5star book to find out
Within These Walls had me sucked in from the very beginning. It was unlike anything I’ve ever read before.
Both Lailah’s and Jude’s backgrounds and circumstances really touched me. Neither of them really living life. Hearts broken in different ways this book truly made my own heart ache.
Jude was such a gorgeous and sweet man who felt responsible for tragic past events causing him to stop living. Lailah, born with a medical condition that stopped her being a ‘normal’ child, teenager and adult, who too in a different was being robbed of a life. Where as Jude was stuck in perpetual grief and self blame, Lailah saw all the goodness in life and the goodness in Jude.
Their love developed beautifully and the story really goes on an emotional roller coaster (well for me anyway).
There were moments in the story where I had to remind myself that it is a fictional book as you could question the ethics of Jude’s behaviour, but that’s the beauty of books, it’s fiction and anything goes and that’s why I love them.
This was a wonderful story, it was refreshing and for me 100% enjoyable and a definite page turner.
